MR. C STEVEN BAILEY: LASIK is probably the most successful corneal procedure ever devised and I think certainly the most successful corneal retractile procedure ever devised. It was started in Spain in 1994, that’s where it was invented. And it was piloted in the UK by myself and two colleague working together in 1995. A key advantage to LASIK is that it’s a painless procedure. You’re only in the clinic for an hour and a half, two hours, then you can go home, with the visual results very quick. Most people will see well enough to meet the driving standard the following day. It’s adjustable and it’s very safe.
We’ll give you a thorough eye check when you come in to assess your suitability for laser refractive surgery. We need people with stable vision who are motivated to see without glasses or contact lenses. We can treat short sight, long sight, and astigmatism. But even if you’re unsuitable for laser refractive surgery, we can offer you other solutions.
